Top 10 of 2010

So here is.  Red Gate Farm's Top 10 of 2010, David Letterman style.

Number 10

Repainted an old coffee table, added new Anthropologie knobs.... for just the cost of the new knobs.

Number 9

Finally added a door, a free screen door, to our hall closet, which had no door.  Organized it with bins and jars since you can see through the screening.

Number 8

Installed new butcher block counter tops from IKEA and a FREE farmhouse sink from Craig's list.  Got this idea from multiple blogs... we hadn't actually considered using butcher block.  Replacing the stained 60 year old counter tops... YAHOO!

Number 7

After five years of dish pan hands, an 18" Bosch dishwasher.

Number 6

Finished the dog run portion of the back of the chicken coop.

Number 5

New power service for the barn and outbuildings.

Number 4

New, out of old, built in dining room cabinet.

Number 3

Yards and yards of cement for a finished barn floor... first floor that is.

Number 2

The barn is "buttoned up".  Here my husband and dad commemorate the last few boards on the final door, with the dogs too of course.  Closed now to the elements with all siding, doors and windows.

And finally, Number 1, of course....

An entire house, the Peach Palace.  This one is a little bit of a cheat since we're not quite done.  But after 3 months of working on the house, it deserves the number one spot.

Happy New Year to all my new friends,

Happy 26

Today is our wedding anniversary.  Number 26 to be exact.  It's hard to believe it's been 26 years since our wedding, in the middle of a holiday snowstorm.  One of those record breaking type storms.

I remember on the morning of our wedding, my mom wanting to call the local radio station and cancel.  I told her it didn't matter if nobody showed as long as the three lead actors were there.  Of course that was the judge, my husband-to-be and myself!  Even at 20, I knew the wedding wasn't actually the most important part of that day.  It was the marriage between two people that mattered.  Many of us may want the fairy tale wedding, but in the end it's just a big party for just one day.

Of course the wedding did happen.  And 26 years later, the marriage is still happening as well.

Here we are in all of our 1984 glory.  As you can see, I didn't fall for the big hair of the 80's...

Food, fun and family

I think I'm suffering from a holiday hangover.  Ya know, a little too much of everything...

I still feel a little bit like this....

Cady obviously has the hangover too.

It was a whirlwind week leading up to the event.  My daughter and her boyfriend flew in on Friday the 17th.  After that, everything seemed to revolve around food, fun and family.  The three fabulous "f's", of course.

We ate at all of the places I don't get to eat because my husband only eats "American" that my daughter wanted to eat at.  There was Mexican, but since I hadn't had Mexican since last June, well there is no photo... I was in a rush!  I did however manage to restrain myself while at one of my favorites, a local restaurant known for their soups... my favorite is African Peanut, yummy.

We had family over for a pizza party.

There were Ina Garten's, aka the Barefoot Contessa, fantabulous Pecan Squares.  You've never SEEN anything with sooooo much butter, but they are out of this world.  Of course  there isn't a picture, we ate them all.

Movie night, with four dogs.

Wii night.

And of course, shopping, wrapping, cleaning, baking and all of the other fun holiday happenings.  Finishing projects and presents, yes, I am a procrastinator! Oh... and a little thing called "work" too!

Christmas morning lattes and hot chocolate.

No wonder it's Tuesday morning and I still feel like going back to bed!

Looking forward to the New Year of 2011,
Chris at Red Gate Farm

PS... I got my gate ;)

In the pink

I'm one of those crazy people that starts listening to Christmas music around November 1st.  By Thanksgiving I have the all Christmas, all the time, radio station on in my car.

My favorite song this year is I'll Be Home For Christmas, the Michael Buble version.  I love the old, Sinatra, Crosby sound of Michael Buble.

Over here at Red Gate Farm, we have guests for the holidays.

They're staying in my pretty, pink and aqua room.  The room that's got some frills to it.

They flew in last night to Vancouver BC and we drove up to pick them up.  They brought this new little family member.

Her name is Frejya... named after the Norse goddess of course.  What miniature dachshund wouldn't be named after a Norse goddess?

We also enjoyed the best waffles ever, a recipe from my mother in law.  And bacon.  There's always gotta be bacon.

Enjoying the start to a fantastic, holiday week.

I'll be home for Christmas

I'll be home for Christmas,
You can count on me...
Please have snow...
And mistletoe...
And presents under the tree.

Well the presents aren't wrapped, cuz I've been getting the guest room ready.

A little decorating since I have peeps coming to stay.

It's my pretty pink, aqua and white room.

My girly room, here at Red Gate Farm.

AKA my sewing room.  Done up in pink, white and silver decorations.

Because by Friday evening...

they'll be here, I can hardly wait.

Ready for a visit from my daughter and her boyfriend.  It's been 6 months.
