Two out of three "ain't" bad.....

We've enjoyed a beautiful two out of three days weather wise.  Saturday was grey and rainy but Friday and Sunday were fabulous.  Three days spent almost entirely "at home".  Working on the outside and working on the inside.  We did get out for the weekly big night out on Friday... dinner at the local Sonic drive-in.  After spending the entire day outside, we were a bit sweaty and dirty for any other type of eating establishment!

I managed to plant around 200 of my white impatiens that I planted from seed and have been diligently keeping alive, waiting for the weather to warm up enough to put them outside.  I still have around 100 more to plant, but they're a bit on the small side.  Perhaps next weekend they'll be ready.  I love how the white impatiens glow in the shady garden spots... and the twilight hours.

It was hard not to spend every minute outside on Friday.  The sky was clear, the sun was warm.  I inadvertently may or may not have gotten a little bit too much sun...

On Friday the Rhodie was almost fully in bloom.  Another day or two and the pale pink will give way to white as it fully opens.

By today, Sunday, it was really at it's peak.

And after the little too much sun on Friday, well the grey and rainy Saturday was a good day to continue my on going painting in the front porch.  The ceiling isn't as grey as this picture, there's more of an aqua-ish/blue hue to it.  For such a small room, it sure is taking hours to paint.  I believe I have about 14 or 15 hours in it already.  Since it's an old enclosed porch it has siding instead of flat walls... that means painting with a brush.  And LOTS of edging around all those windows....  Covering up all that green so far has taken a coat of primer and two coats of paint.

Although I loved the green, I think it will be a more peaceful space.  And that's the original beaded board ceiling and light fixture... Can't wait to get it finished and show it off to all.

As I sit here Sunday evening... a little tired, a little sore, and inadvertently still a little pink... I'd like to tell all the Canadian bloggers... I hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend.  And to all my fellow American bloggers... we're heading into the week before OUR long weekend... YEAH!

  1. All your hard work, outside and in the porch is really going to pay off! I'm loving the ceiling.

I got a little too much sun, too. In fact, I know I did. I'm peeling like a snake shedding it's skin. Icky.

  2. The good weather is inching its way up here. We had rain forecast for the entire long weekend, but it has been alright - a little drizzle and cloud. No sun, and the air is cool, but NO RAIN!

  3. Looks like spring is coming along nicely at Red Gate Farm! With all the rain and other projects, I've totally neglected my flower beds and gardens, but if the weather cooperates, that just how I plan to spend the upcoming holiday weekend!

  4. It is so good getting out after more than our share of 'weather', even for the PNW! Your Rhodie looks so pretty all in bloom, do you have to deadhead all those blooms?

  5. It's a wonderful day when you get to spend it outside, even if you get a little pink or red in the process! And I'd love to be able to walk through your "moon garden". I've always wanted to plant one of those!

  9. Chris your yard always looks is beautiful and that Rhody is amazing! Ours haven't even bloomed yet and I am beginning to wonder if it will this year. ugh! I love impatiens especially white and hope to get mine soon for our shady window boxes. :) I am loving your porch so far and I can't wait to see when it is all done. It is a lot of work, we painted our cedar siding last year and had to use a brush! It took about a week or so. Glad we only have to so that once every 7 years or so. :)

  12. This time of the year there always seems to be more projects than there is time! I've been out in the garden every chance I get also. Trying to make up for a cold, rainy spring.

Your yard looks so pretty. The flowering shrubs and trees are gorgeous!

  14. All your hard work inside and out will pay off. The porch really looks good and your garden is beautiful. Our rhodies disappointed this year. Spring has been cold and wet and they are not liking that at all. This is my first visit to your blog and I've spent some time browsing through your earlier posts. I'm so glad I did that. You've created a lovely spot for your visitors and I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I'll definitely be back. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
