Serendipity

Serendipity as in a "happy accident" or "pleasant surprise".  Specifically, the accident of finding something good or useful while not specifically searching for it....

And that's the kind of day I had yesterday, a serendipitous one!

For the last 3 or 4 years I've been heading to a local thrift store that supports a chapter of the Humane Society.  They save all their holiday donations throughout the year and put them out mid-November... this year that date coincided with the Veteran's Day holiday.  We were there a bit early to wait in line for the 9:30 opening.  Of course, there was lots of peeking in the windows to see if a treasure or two could be spotted... and I found my share of treasures and it's time to show them off share them...

I found quite a few fabulous items... this string of vintage mercury glass beads for $2.00.

Two of these vintage mercury glass sprays for $3.00.  And they are in pristine condition!

The cutest little box of teeny-tiny mercury glass balls... for $1.00... and I'm not sure which I like more, the little balls or the box!

A slightly bigger box of mini balls... with another fabulous box, also $1.00.

And I couldn't pass up these little deer... a momma and babies.  I got 5 or 6 packages for $2.00.  Perhaps to use in a mason jar snow globe or two?

Some vintage balls, still wrapped in tissue... made in Japan.  And a bargain at $3.00.

Sugar bells... the cutest little ones... also made in Japan (see the label) and both of these were just $.50!

These funky little odds and ends... probably to use as package tie-ons or in corsages... were just $.50 for all three.

This box of small vintage ornaments was $6.00.... some of the ornaments are probably from World War II when the mercury glass/Shiney Brites were not "silvered".

And this matching set, still in it's box with a tree topper and all was just $7.00!

These little mercury glass candles were $2.00 each... my husband wasn't a believer when I showed these off but aren't they fabulous?  I can hardly wait to start decorating for Christmas....

And the best find of the day?  Why it was serendipitous?   While standing in line I meet this fellow blogger (Hi Holly!)!!  What a nice and unexpected start to a wonderful day... she even helped me find a couple must haves at the sale... obviously she's checked out Red Gate Farm a time or two because they all had "me" written all over it!

So, a great way to start a day and a short work week... a fun sale full of vintage holiday finds, a day with my mom and FINALLY meeting a blogger friend!
