March, a lion or a lamb

Yesterday, (Wednesday, March 2nd) was an extremely windy day up here in the Pacific Northwest.  Lots of power outages and downed trees.  We even lost a large limb off of one of our evergreens... it must have made a loud noise when it snapped off!

By the time I got home from work yesterday the sun was out, at least for a few minutes.  I wandered around outdoors looking for some signs of the spring to come.  I was greeted by little, brave bits new life.  Of green in a brown landscape.

Starts of tulips and hyacinths.

I dream of them and

their companions of self-seeding pink larkspur.

Tiny little buds on my azalea...

Will soon burst forth, vibrant and orange, to greet the spring sun.

Even the delphinium is peaking up... still so small and fragile...

soon it will look like this, the color so blue with purples strokes.  So unbelievable that you would think it was painted on with a brush.

There's an old saying that March comes in as lion and goes out like a lamb.  Since the lion roared through on  Wednesday, we can only hope that we'll be seeing the lamb soon.

One way or another, spring is on it's way,

  8. I love this time of year when things start making their way up through the dirt. It still amazes me how quickly plants come to life and each and every day the garden progresses, quicker and faster, as the sun glows warmer and the days get longer. Unfortunately, my small urban garden is still buried under snow. Have a great weekend!

  12. I thought about that saying, too. But since it was warm and sunny on the first, I fear that we may get the opposite. Hope not! I'm so ready for spring. Your pictures made it even more so!

  13. I hope the lion is gone. I prefer the lamb. Early this morning while out with my pup I heard all sorts of birds singing. They think it's almost spring. So do I. As always, your pics are wonderful.

  14. Wonderful post and such pretty flowers yet to come. So glad you linked up with FFF too :) I love larkspur! Can you sew the seeds and get flowers in the same season? I’ve never planted them before. I’m so excited to get my hands dirty with my new gloves and gifts :) You are just awesome!
