If Only I Lived in...

If only I lived in...

Texas I could visit the antique fairs at Roundtop and Marburger.

Or maybe the southeast part of the US , I'd travel the World's Longest Garage Sale route, spotting treasures near and far.

Perhaps Ohio or Georgia, the upcoming Country Living Fair.

Pasadena I could be queen of the flea EVERY month at the Rose Bowl Flea Market.

And of course in the early summer in Spokane, I wouldn't miss the Farm Chicks.

But... I don't. I live in the Northwest part of Washington (state that is) and seriously, one of my favorite shopping adventures of the year is also for a wonderful cause and start bright and early tomorrow. It's the Lydia Place Annual Garage Sale. This will be my 5th year attending this worth while event. By paying a $10 fee, you can get in an hour "early" and beat the crowds.

Over the last four years I have found some wonderful treasures here. The first year I just came home with a vintage rolling pin and one of those oversized, copper Martha Stewart cookie cutters - I got both for $3.00!

The second year I got a fabulous vintage enameled tin coffee pot, a beautiful vintage straw purse and loads of vintage Christmas decorations. My daughter found vintage jewelry, an oilcloth Harrod's (of London) shopping bag and a really cool vintage travel bag... you know those cool bags that airlines and travel agencies gave out back in the 60's.

The third year I went by myself and found a wonderful cement chicken (very chippy) for $1! Of course I had to lug the thing around while I shopped... and it probably weighs 20 pounds!

My fourth year (last year) I got one of those Bakelite, clip on your bed frame, vintage lights... so cool. My sister-in-law scored a LL Bean canvas bag for $3!

Of course I've also gotten vintage sewing notions, needles, vintage/antique holiday decorations, pictures, dishes, glasses... you name it.

  1. All of those places sound great, and I love the treasures you've found. Most shows around here are quite expensive, likely because of our proximity to Toronto. Thrift shops, on the other hand, have lots of great finds!

I'm also here to tell you that you're the winner of the CSN giveaway I hosted. Congrats! I'm not sure I have your email address so if you could confirm it with me at ontarioruralrevival (at) gmail (dot) com, I will send your info off to CSN.

Look forward to hearing from you!

  7. I don't know of anything like that where I live in Alabama. Except for the worlds longest yard sale of course! I'll have to see how far the Country Living event is from where I live, thanks. Love that chicken, made me laugh thinking about having to lug it around all day, sounds like something I would do!
