The final piece of furniture

After 5 years and 8 months, the living room is finally completed.  When we moved to Red Gate Farm, I realized the couch and loveseat we had from our other home was just too big for the room.  At the time, the set was only about 7 years old and in pretty good shape.  Compared to the other myriad of projects I knew replacing them would be low on the to do list.

Finally this past May, I ordered my new couch and chair from Pottery Barn.  Today the final piece came, the leather club chair (actually it's a recliner) also from Pottery Barn.  With the size and shape of this room I knew a couch and 2 chairs would be much better than the old couch and loveseat.  I also went with a scaled down coffee table.

Sept. 2004 looking very small (with the renter's furniture still here)

January 05 - just moved in - notice the lonely light fixture

January 05 - still no curtains and horrible harvest gold window trim (in flat paint no less)

March 05 - curtains, finally... well actually it's just the pieces of fabric hanging, not actual curtains yet
October 05 - painting the floors "in progress"
Sept 10 - final room
Sept 10 - old coffee table painted with new Anthropolgie knobs

Sept 10 - repurposed freezer/cold cabinet

I'm very happy with how the room has turned out... a nice mix of old and new, painted and unpainted, slipcovered and leather, dark and light.

  1. Looks fantastic, even though it has taken years to buy/plan all the required furniture, the wait is worth.

  2. Nice interior design of this room. I'll try to design my home in this format. But for the decoration of home or office it is necessary to place attractive furniture. Cool..
    Keep posting more furniture information.

  3. I love that you've documented all the progress of your room - from start to finish. It has turned out really beautiful and you obviously had a vision. Looks like a great place to just 'hang'.
    Happy Friday!

  4. It takes time doesn't it? but the end product looks great! I'm loving that black chair..that is what I want for our new home...no more covering furniture because of Molliedog...leather and wipe it off. I can't believe you painted the floor..it looks good..how did you do that?

  8. Hi Chris!
Wow what a difference paint and new furniture makes! That layout with the two chairs is much better with room to move plus it makes the room look much larger. I had to look twice at your carpet...it's VERY similar to the one we have in our office/craft room. You did a wonderful job of the whole room...congratulations on finally being done!
Thanks for stopping by today. It's a small world isn't it! That beach in Penticton is where I learned to swim when I was 7 years old... we lived on an orchard between Penticton and Naramata. Wow that was 1959! Have a wonderful weekend...Maura :)
