A little cheatin'

Yes, I'll admit, sometimes I cheat.  My 20 year old son still likes peanut butter and jelly (or jam) sandwiches.  Since our grapes are a long way from ever producing actual fruit, I decided to give "homemade" grape jelly a try with store bought, 100% concord grape juice.

I used most of this bottle... and it produced...

2 pint jars and 5 smaller jelly jars of grape jelly.

And since confession is good for the soul, last Sunday when I made the jelly and canned it, set it aside to cool and seal, well... it was like grape juice in the jars!  I've never actually made jelly except for Habenero Gold which set up quite quickly.  After a day I could see that the small jars were starting to set and finally after a couple more days the large jars too.

Hopefully this "PB & J" guy won't be disappointed.

Enjoying the "almost the weekend" part of the work week...

  1. I admire a mom that makes homemade jelly for her son. I know he will love it and I bet it is delicious. Do you live anywhere near Forks? :)

  4. What a good idea. I also have a concord grape vine we just planted this year. It is getting big, but how long DOES it take to harvest any??? How long have you had yours? I make my own grape juice and jelly every year, but currently until mine is ready, I buy concord grapes from the amish store. I have canned some juice w/o sugar to make jelly later. Let me know how yours tastes when you crack open a jar!

  6. Ummm, so maybe I shouldn't have thrown out all that runny jelly I made last year? I certainly didn't give it days to set up. Ooops!
