Blogiversary Week, Day 4 - Make it Colorful

What do you think about color?

Although I can appreciate black and white photography for it's beauty,

I do like my garden with a bit of color.

Which brings me back to the idea of a garden journal.  Wouldn't you love to be able to add beautiful hand drawn illustrations, like the inside cover of Martha Stewart's Gardening Book...

or perhaps the simple sketches sprinkled throughout Country Gardens magazine?

I don't have the talent for either of those, but I can add color.

And you can too.  Today's addition is a set of beautiful pastel hued color pencils, a Sharpie in the most fabulous shade of aqua, pastel post-its for marking pages, a fun little binder clip, a pink ink pen and of course, just to pretty it up, a vintage unused seed packet from a local nursery... which still exists I might add.

Let there be color,
Chris at Red Gate Farm

PS - Don't forget to check out Days 1, 2 and 3 of the giveaway. And here are rules that I posted on Monday, January 24th.

Starting today, and each day until the drawing, I will be adding something NEW to the GIVEAWAY, so each day you get an additional opportunity to enter... by leaving a comment. The final addition will be one week from today, Monday January 31st. This means you have up to 8 times to enter! The winner will be announced on Tuesday, February 1st.

And of course, my followers, well they get an automatic "extra" entry.... for a potential of nine entries.

  3. When I saw your colored pencils and the arbor drawing, I remembered that years ago I did plot out a 'dream garden' on graph paper and finished it with colored pencils..it would be fun to try it again.

  4. I have spent hours....yes, hours looking at Martha's garden sketches inside the cover of that very same book. It was my very first gardening book, and I think I know the whole thing by heart!
p.s. your azalea and rhody pictures from yesterday were drop dead gorgeous. I so miss being able to grow them here. And hydrangeas. Really miss hydrangeas.

  9. I love color, and I've often thought about doing a sketch of my garden ~ it would be perfect in a garden journal.

This is my first time visiting your blog, which it seems we have a lot in common, and I want to thank you for visiting my blog and for your order at Whimsytwo! I'm so happy to meet another dachshund lover!

    Hugs,

  10. I love flowers, and when it comes to an outside oasis of garden beds I am completely at a loss of ideas..I have been on garden tours and find them inspirational and when I get home to look at my sticks or leaves or pathetic garden I have no idea where to begin... maybe you should give us a garden tutorial, for beginners.

  11. Chris

Yes the previous owner did do an incredible job on the crown..but our ceilings have been dropped and I just am aching to see what is above them...Maybe in the living room we can see because the walls just have some weird paper backing and they need to be revealed!

Go for it in the bedroom..it would be so serene!

  17. Hi Sweetie...
Another gorgeous share of color. Love the photos, are the not beautiful. You truly do add color everywhere you look. So pretty.

Here in Phoenix, I have quite a few flowers in full bloom. My petunias, pansies, geraniums, snapdragons and a few others, are screaming with color right now. It makes my heart "HAPPY" to see the beauty in the yard.

Thank you again for another wonderful opportunity at such a great prize/s.

Many hugs and much love, Sherry
